Too Much Art? (Never!)

Anyone else feeling like Waterloo Region has gone arts crazy? I’m overwhelmed (and thrilled) by the number of arts events taking place this month and next. This week alone, you can attend: Laurie Wonfor Nolan’s Painting From Life exhibition (last week!), Amy Ferrari/Lauren Judge’s Open Studio (tonight!), Convergence, CAFKA.11 (last week!), the Cambridge Studio Tour (this weekend!), the Elora-Fergus Studio Tour (this weekend and next!), the Mary-Allen Studio Tour (this weekend!), foto-RE at KWAG, RAM – Rethinking Art & Machine, live music and painting at The Jazz Room, and Impact 11 Theatre (only 2 days left!). A complete listing of visual art events can be found here.

The most recent artist to join the Art Allies family of artists is Diana Erb. Emerald City (below) is one of my faves (especially after seeing “Wicked” during the Centre In The Square roadtrip to New York City this past year).

Don’t forget to RSVP for the next Art Allies Artist Reception on October 6th from 4-7pm. The “Urban Influence” exhibition features the artwork of four regional artists (Michele Braniff, Jennifer Depencier, John Hofstetter and Amy Roger) and Cowan Insurance Group is our Art Champion. Everyone is welcome and feel free to bring a friend.

We have added new work by Jennifer Depencier and Amy Ferrari to the Art Allies website. Check it out!

Enjoy!

Welcome September!
(aka fall at buying season)

Hope you had a wonderful summer and you’re now all geared up to start decorating your home for the holiday season (heh heh). Seriously though, it can sometimes take months of searching before you find that perfect piece of artwork. Hopefully, we can make your search a little easier.

Since the last newsletter artist Tim Steven has joined the Art Allies family of artists. You can learn about Tim and see more of his work here.

At Art Allies, we strongly encourage visiting with artists — in their studios if possible. Artwork means so much more once you’ve met the person who created it and heard the story behind the work. September is a fabulous time to get out to meet artists because many of them are participating in studio tours and open houses. For example…
nik harron (and other regional artists) will be painting “en plein air” on Saturday mornings/afternoons on Eby Street across from the Kitchener Market
Laurie Wonfor Nolan will be “live performance painting” the Mike Murley Septet at The Jazz Room on September 10th
Amy Ferrari and Lauren Judge are hosting an Open Studio night with Amy Roger, David G. White, Laura Perrin, Catherine Soza and a number of other regional artists on September 23rd from 6-9pm at 72 St. Leger Street in Kitchener
Three of my favourite studio tours take place in September: The Elora-Fergus Studio Tour runs September 15-October 2, the Mary-Allen Studio Tour and Sale and the Cambridge Studio Tour both take place on September 24-25 (there are many studios to visit so make sure you book enough time or you will be disappointed)
A complete listing of visual art events can be found here.

If you’re not able to attend these events, we now have over 450 original works of art by regional artists on the Art Allies website for your viewing (and purchasing) pleasure. Over the past month, we have added new work by Jennifer Depencier, Michelle Salter, and Jeff Ferst.

And finally, a reminder that Laurie Wonfor Nolan’s “Painting from Life” exhibition sponsored by Libro is still on at the Hub and the Accelerator Centre until September 30th.

Enjoy!
